Additional Resources

What is Magnolia?

Magnolia is a collection of about 50 core databases provided to every library (K-12, Community College, University, Public and Special) and citizen of Mississippi through the financial support of Mississippi taxpayers.

What is MELO?

MELO is a "virtual library" of databases (Magnolia plus others specific to MSVCC) provided to students and faculty participating in courses offered through the Mississippi Virtual Community College (MSVCC).

Can MSVCC students use Hinds CC Libraries instead of MELO?

No.  Hinds CC Libraries resources are secured and will always require a MyHinds login and password which some MSVCC students will not have.

What is the MS Library Partnership?

In April 2019, Hinds Community College Libraries joined the Mississippi Library Partnership, a consortium of libraries that share resources and a library automation system.  Participation expands access to resources for all Hinds faculty, staff and students to the member libraries that share resources via courier that runs weekly.  Over 60 libraries and systems are including in the partnership including MS State and MS University for Women.

Library Mission and Vision

Our Vision

Hinds Community College Libraries (Learning Resource Centers) are established and recognized by Hinds CC campuses and surrounding communities as one of the most fundamental components of student learning, faculty teaching and community growth. The LRCs provide resources, instruction, outreach, services and an environment that advances learning, nurtures creativity, supports collaboration and inspires educational commitment. The College community and the community at large are continuously enriched by our efforts.

Our Mission

In order to foster greater learning opportunities for students and community users, Hinds Libraries (Learning Resource Centers) acquire, organize, preserve and make available the best and most appropriate resources, in all formats, needed to support the instructional goals of the College and its faculty. In addition, Hinds Libraries provide courteous assistance and professional instruction to their communities in the location and use of informational resources. The LRC staff strives to maintain a welcoming, comfortable and technologically supportive environment that facilitates reading, learning, collaboration and ease of use.

The Hinds Community College Libraries support and adhere to the Library Bill of Rights as adopted by the American Library Association.
