What is STEM?

STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

The United States, while still a leader in each of these fields, has fewer students going into these areas.  The idea of a 'STEMcentric' curriculum is centered on the idea of educating students in each of these four disciplines. This interdisciplinary and applied approach aims to integrate students into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications.

The HCC-Utica Campus STEM Up Academy in an undergraduate program whose core strategy focuses on:

  • Introducing students to STEM research
  • Providing students with at head start on their STEM careers
  • Facilitating student success and transfer to four-year institutions
